PARLANDO E CAMMINANDO FINO A GROTTA ALL'ONDA.....

Speak and walk to Grotta all'Onda ......
Learn while speaking Italian in authentic and culturally attractive settings : for this purpose, our school organises some activities that combine language learning with interests of various kinds, from cooking to hiking, from art to music. Speak and walk is one of these programs, talking and walking in the nature to discover different and interesting places.
One of our favorite walks is the one that takes us to the heart of the southern Apuan Alps, just below Mount Matanna, to a cave where the prehistoric man lived, called Grotta all'Onda, perhaps because the sea was here millions of years back.
We drive from Lucca and arrive in Camaiore passing Montemagno. The road is pleasant and shady. Arriving at the top of the mountain (actually a modest height, also easily accessible by bicycle), a beautiful panorama appears on the plain below and the coast of Versilia. Some bends to go down and after a while we are in Camaiore. From there we take a narrow and winding road and arrive at Casoli, the village of graffiti, whose houses are decorated with paintings and wall designs of good artistic value. After Casoli the road becomes even narrower and we arrive at Trescolli where we leave the car and start the walk.
Initially, for about a kilometer you walk on the track of an old aqueduct. From the beginning of this walk I always have the impression of going back in time, perhaps it's the suggestion of the prehistoric man, perhaps it's the dense forest: surely it's a walk that can be done even in summer, because it is almost completely in the shade.
At some point you leave the acqueduct and go to the left and the trail begins to climb up and become irregular, like a real mountain trail. After passing a watering can for animals (in this area there are flocks of sheep) it goes up again and after about half an hour we arrive at the cave.
Before entering the cave, there is a natural shower, water that falls from the mountain above, and if you like you can freshen up with it. At the shelter of the cave there is a table with benches and you can sit and have a snack with what you have brought along.
It's a truly relaxing walk, and the effort to climb the last stretch is compensated by the freshness of the woods.
After taking some rest we go back and on our return trip we may stop at Camaiore to enjoy the "scarpaccia", which is a salty zucchini pie, typical of the area.
